You can NOT use your electric appliances in South Africa without a voltage converter, as the standard voltage in South Africa (230 V) is higher than in the US (120 V.)

  • You need a power plug adapter in South Africa.
  • You also need a voltage converter.
  • Be extra careful with certain appliances because of the difference in frequency.

It is highly recommended to use an all-in-one adapter/converter with USB ports. Which ever adapter/converter you purchase, make sure it is valid for South Africa! The package should state what countries it’s good for and if South Africa isn’t listed, don’t take a chance.

Recommendations – It’s also not a bad idea to travel with portable battery chargers as well (and can be purchased anywhere.)
